About Rhiannon

Rhiannon graduated from the SUNY Oswego Honors Program with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art and an Art History minor. She went on to receive her Master of Science for Teachers degree in Visual Art Education from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon graduating, she worked for two years as the full time middle and high school art teacher in the Red Creek Central School District.

Rhiannon is very excited to be the new visual art teacher at the Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts. She looks forward to further developing arts integration at the school, and embraces the school’s philosophy of whole brain teaching.

In her kindergarten art classes, Rhiannon will provide an introduction to future art learning. Students will explore the basics of using art materials and techniques, while also analyzing a variety of artwork, and learning about the cultural contributions of the arts. Students will develop their fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking while learning about and utilizing the Elements of Art. Throughout the year, students will experiment with drawing, painting, print-making, collage, sculpture, textile art, and ceramics in arts integrated lessons.

In first grade art, Rhiannon will help students build upon the foundational knowledge they gained in kindergarten. Students will review and build upon the Elements of Art with thought-provoking, creative, and engaging art projects that follow state and national standards. Students will be given more choices in their artistic exploration and will develop better understandings of materials and techniques. Authentic connections between art and other subjects will be made throughout the year.

In her second grade art classes, she will teach students about the Principles of Design in addition to the Elements of Art. Students will become well versed in analyzing famous works of art and the artwork of their peers. They will gain new skills with art materials and techniques, and will have more free choice time to develop their creativity and self-motivation. As always, the arts curriculum will be developed alongside the second grade curriculum in order to promote arts integration.

In third grade art, Rhiannon will reinforce the concepts associated with the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design through arts integrated lessons that nurture creativity, skill development, and problem solving. Students will have the opportunity to fine tune their skills in drawing, painting, print-making, collage, sculpture, textile art, and ceramics.
